"Be Still and Know" at Most Holy Redeemer CANCELLED
God Bless our good Archbishop!
From today's California Catholic Daily:
"San Francisco Archbishop George Niederauer has ordered the cancellation of a play based on the controversial book The God Box that had been scheduled this weekend at Most Holy Redeemer parish.
'The parish has cancelled the play at the request of Archbishop George H. Niederauer,” said archdiocesan spokesman Maurice Healy in an email to California Catholic Daily. “Bishop William Justice, vicar for clergy, communicated this to the parish.'
Student actors from Sacred Heart Preparatory School in Atherton had been scheduled to perform the play, 'Be Still and Know,' on Sunday afternoon, March 8, at Most Holy Redeemer, which according to the parish bulletin, 'explores the subject of homosexuality within a Christian, adolescent context.”'
The original post detailing our objections to this play being performed at Catholic institutions, can be found here.

This article has been pulled entirely from CalCatholic.com. They do not report anything about the show being "moved." Why isn't this article being properly sourced?

ReplyDeleteThe link in the post is live to the Califonia Catholic Daily Story.
As for the play being moved, there is no evidence for this, only a comment by an anonymous blog poster.

If the site for the play has been moved to a Catholic university, I think it's a good bet that the university is USF. This blog has documented amply in the past how USF is not a true Catholic university, and how it opposes Catholic doctrine, especially on the issue of homosexuality. So, showing the play there would be a natural fit with the school's leanings with the added bonus that USF would get to thumb its nose at the Archbishop in the juvenile attitude of rebellion that characterizes so many unfaithful Catholics, a sizable number of Jesuits included.
ReplyDeleteAmazing! I just read all of these blogs and the originals ones. I am not Catholic, but can see why this church has so many problems. You all seem so angry, so quick to judge and criticize others, and can't even seem to agree on what is or is not a Catholic school or institution. And most appalling is the way the adults are condemning children. It's almost with hatred. Don't you think these conversations would be better "offline?" Where's the true Christian spirit??? Really give some thought to the phrase: What would Jesus do in this situation? Are you truly doing that yourselves??
ReplyDeletePlease remember to thank His Excellency for this action!

I agree, no wonder the Catholic Church has so many problems and people are leaving in droves. The author of this blog is mean-spirited and intolerant. No wonder there is bullying and hate crimes in schools!!!
ReplyDelete"God permits evil, because he respects the freedom of his creatures." (CCC#311) Does that explain why it was cancelled?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 7:44 PM:
ReplyDeleteThat explains a lot of things in life, actually.
But I'm curious: are any parents at Sacred Heart School wondering WHY the Archdiocese cancelled the performance of the play at Most Holy Redeemer?

Gibbons,
ReplyDeleteVery little doubt what our good Archbishop had in mind on this end. It is ashamed that the Sacred Hart High Scholl (SHS) administrators (Principle and director of Drama?) have chosen our kids to help do battle with the evil and sinful demons that haunt their lives. This is not what we signed up for when we were looking for a good school for our child. Based on historic practices SHS was a safe haven for our kids. Today we see adults (that have great influence) convincing our kids that the Bible and our faith are something we can pick and choose from. When scripture readings don’t agree with our life style then we can just reject it, rather than change our sinful actions. We can even brainwash the fragile youth to help us feel better with our actions. Soon we see our kids rejecting their faith whenever they want and when ever it suits them because this is what they are being taught. The reckless behavior by the SHS has caused us untold problems with the one thing we could always turn to and that was our sacred teachings. Once evil begins its work in this manner, you are much better off in a public school system where religious teaching must be separated from the state.
Keep up the good work here as few parents have the religious convictions to stand up for what is right. Rather than hurt their chances for their child to get into a good school, they remain silent and do not speak to the administrators about this travesty.
