Senate Bill Will Pass, Pro-Life Amendment Probably Impossible

The AP reports that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has the 60 votes neede to move the Senate's version of Obamacare forward.

This is the bill the Bishops have called "unacceptable" and Richard Doerflinger has called the worst pro-abortion bill yet.

For the bill to be amended to include something like Stupak, 60 votes will be required. Experts say that is almost certainly impossible.

At best, a vote for Stupak was a vote to limit evil, but there is still plenty of evil in the House version of this fiasco about to befall the American people. Stupak itself contains rape/incest/life-of-the-mother-exceptions for its prohibitions on abortion funding. In addition, the rest of the bill still has the following problems:
• Section 240 permits killing of the elderly and infirm.
• Sections 258 and 259 contain contradictory language regarding conscience protection.
• Section 304 explicitly forces insurers to cover abortion.
• Section 1714 funds groups such as Planned Parenthood.
• Section 2526 also funds groups such as Planned Parenthood, for providing sex education programs that “improve rates of contraceptive use.”
I obtained this info from American Life League's excellent analysis which may be found at:

And of course, there is the separate matter of the bill's atrocious assault on the principle of subsidiarity.

Is this the type of bill the USCCB is now willing to back?! Apparently so. God help us!

I agree completely. Even if every bit of the abortion funding is removed the bill is still an outrageous nightmare.

If the Bishops want veto power over political decisions, perhaps they should be willing to contribute to the financial well-being of society. Time to tax the churches!
