Civics Lesson Iowa: Counterfeit "Marriage" Judges on Ballot

This November , voters in Iowa will have the opportunity to remove three state Supreme Court justices who imposed same-sex "marriage" on the state back in April, 2009. The Iowa constitution requires that voters confirm judges every eight years, and the term for the three is up now.

The recall movement "Iowa for Freedom" is being led by Bob Vander Platts. The website is http://www.iowaforfreedom.com/

Life Site News reports:

"Retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor on Wednesday waded into a unique state electoral battle, where conservatives are seeking to recall from the bench three state Supreme Court justices that legalized same-sex “marriage” in 2009.

Speaking at a panel organized by the Iowa State Bar Association in the Hotel Fort Des Moines, O'Connor asserted that 'the judges should not be subject to retaliation' from voters for the decisions they render."

Of course they should. Either that or we fold up democracy. As Matthew Franck wrote recently:

"When judges create a right to same-sex marriage out of whole cloth, that’s more than 'overstepping.' That’s a direct assault on the constitutional order, and the effort to defeat the offending Iowa jurists in this year’s retention elections is understood by its advocates to be an attempt to restore something severely damaged by the judges... As for the 'peril of subjecting judges to voters’ whims,' how about the peril of subjecting voters to judges’ whims?"

Iowa for Freedom campaign manager Church Laudner says:

“It is the citizens’ right to vote their conscience...Election Day is their turn to be the judge.”
