I am shocked, shocked to hear about the terrible news
from Newtown, Connecticut, USA.
This morning at Mass in the Cathedral the priest prayed for the
victims and survivors of this unbelievable tragedy.
My mind asks - what is the difference between the murders of
these innocents and abortion?

Father, of course the answer is "absolutely no difference whatsoever" in moral essence. The circumstances may be different (murder weapon, ages of victims, etc) but those are peripheral. The allowance of abortion has coarsened our culture so badly that these violent acts will only increase. Couple that with the fact that young people today live knowing that their moms could have legally snuffed out their lives, whereas both you and I had protection of law when we were in utero.
