Defense of Marriage is a Matter of Justice

On March 9, Pope Benedict spoke to the American Bishops in Rome, and reminded them (not that the Bishops needed it) what the the defense of marriage is ultimately about:

"Defending the institution of marriage as a social reality is ultimately a question of justice, since it entails safeguarding the good of the entire human community and the rights of parents and children alike."

The defense of marriage is a defense of the common good of society, and the redefinition of marriage is an attempt to put special interests above the common good. It's destructive and self-destructive, since attacks the common good, if successful, harm those doing the attacking.
