Most Holy Redeemer Lector/Acolyte "Marries" Another Man

While Archbishop Niederauer is taking heat for his firm yet charitable stand in defense of marriage, fifth-columnist homosexual activists in the Archdiocese continue to undercut his efforts. We have demonstrated this here, here, and here.

The latest is from today's Bay Area Reporter (motto:"Serving the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Community since 1971"). The BAR has a "Wedding Announcements" page.

Today's announcements:

"This week's wedding announcements include Ralph Lindsey and Philip Carrizosa...
Ralph K. Lindsey Jr. and G. Philip R. Carrizosa were married Saturday, November 1, 2008, at 6:30 p.m. at Terra Gallery on Rincon Hill overlooking downtown San Francisco. More than 75 friends and relatives attended the ceremony, which was officiated by retired Court of Appeal Justice Joanne Parrilli.

The story ends with:

"The ceremony was a mixture of civil and religious elements, reflecting the couple's deep faith. Mr. Lindsey is an active member of Glide Memorial Methodist Church while Mr. Carrizosa is an acolyte and lector at Most Holy Redeemer Parish."

We checked MHR's acolyte and lector webpages, and Mr. Carrizosa does indeed serve in those ministries. By our count that makes five persons serving in liturgical functions at MHR who have "married" persons of the same sex.

It will be good here to remind ourselves of Church rules.

From "Redemptionis Sacramentum" #46

"The lay Christian faithful called to give assistance at liturgical celebrations should be well instructed and must be those whose Christian life, morals and fidelity to the Church’s Magisterium recommend them."

It's interesting that an evil old man who works for an unrepentant Nazi like Benedict would call gays a fifth column.

It's interesting that a person like Frank would feel qualified to comment on a topic wherein he clearly has no grasp of, or interest in, facts, history, or perspective. Father Malloy, Mr. Cooney, it looks like you're striking a nerve! Keep up the good fight!

Frank, it's obvious from your comment that either (a) you know nothing about Pope Benedict or (b) you know he is not a Nazi and are deliberately slandering him. Either way, I recommend you pick up a copy of Benedict's book "God and the World," read it, and then see if you might want to take advantage of the sacrament of confession, since calumny is a sin. I think if you actually read something the Holy Father has written, you would have a harder time slandering this gentle, decent, and holy man.

I recommend praying for Frank, he's obviously a very angry man with a lot of hate in his heart. You know you are doing somethnig right when you are being slandered for teaching God's word. Keep it up Archbishop N. and Pope Benedict!

Paul Melanson has written a good article on the Supreme Judicial Court in Massachusetts and how they betrayed the common good in Goodrich v. Department of Public Health - which "legalized" same-sex "marriage":

Why does the pastor permit the sodomites to work actively in this parish?

Frank - The problem with Homosexual acts is that they are sex outside of marriage (prior to recent times there is no tradition or marriage between same sex individuals) The only informaiton we have on the origin of marriage comes from the bible and in that we see the joining of a man and woman to be fruitful and multiply. That brings to the second problem, Homosexual Marriage is by its nature sterile and has not potetial of transmitting life. I know this is a dificult point to understand because of the rise of contraceptives - but in the same way the Church also teaches against artificial forms of contraception because the individuals purposely sterilize the marital act and thus, like an act between homosexuals, it has no ability to transmit new life. Thought it might be helpful to you to have some background (just a small piece at that) of why the Church is doing what it is doing with regard to homosexual marriage.

The approved apparitions of Our Lady of America to a humble nun Sr.Mildred Mary Neuzil foretold of the decline of America if we do not heed her call. Our Lady has promised greater spiritual miracles than those granted at Lourdes or Fatima if we do as She asks. The question is will we?

Who cares what Frank said? He's nothing less than a fool standing on the pit of hell.

John Palumbo makes a good point but he directs the readers' attention to a website run by a woman who is falsely claiming to be a nun and has been chastised by the bishops for doing so. This has put this devotion in bad light with a number of credible forces in the Catholic Faith including EWTN who has banned her from any activities with EWTN's ministry.

I would recommend going to www.ourladyofamerica.org or www.oltiv.org (the place where the apparitions occurred) to get the story on what is going on with this devotion and to get more than the history of the nun who experienced the apparitions. The other sites go more into the devotion and do not try to make anybody a saint yet.

It is quite pointless trying to enlighten the "Franks" of the world. In their profound arrogance and self-delusion, they believe their repugnant views to be enlightenment itself. From personal experience, I can say that if one were to furnish such people with absolute, irrefutable proof that they were wrong, they would angrily reject it because they need to hold on to their position because it serves to define what they believe themselves to be. But they only deceive themselves.

As you know, homosexual behavior is addictive and difficult to leave behind. Like many addictive behviors it difficult to stop and carries with it a denial mechanism and a need to be accepted as normal even while continuing that behavior.
The homosexual man has placed his pastor in a difficult corner from which the pastor has no option but to take corrective action.
Lord, please grant the pastor strength, and please encourage the Lector to repent.

Frank obviously you don't know about how being in the Nazi Youth was mandatory. You obviously don't know how the young Ratzinger defected, which was punishable by death. He then joined the underground movement with his father. Which was punishable by death.

Now you know. Now it's your responsibility to publicly apologize for your slander.

"Who cares what Frank said? He's nothing less than a fool standing on the pit of hell."

WHOA! In regards all the Franks of the world throughout time, I believe it was Our Lord that petitioned, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do"! I would gently remind any and everyone here to never forget that we have been gifted with the eyes to see and the ears to hear, the grace to “know”.

“I thirst,” He cried out. How dare we sinners ever refuse to assuage Our Savior’s thirst for every infinitely valuable soul by offering our prayers and sacrifices, by doing penance for those blinded by the culture of death and enslaved by sin?

If we have the audacity to claim to be members of the living Body of Christ whilst excluding anyone from the all-encompassing Mercy of God, then it is we for whom He begged forgiveness from that cross we all put Him on! It is we who keep Him there, we who hinder the coming of His Kingdom in its fullness.

Not a one of us so blessed to have come into the fullness of truth in our Catholic faith got here on our own. Be assured it was the blood, prayers, sacrifices and penances of those gone before and of many with us today that have paved the way for the road we travel.

And our marching orders? - “Now, go and do the same.”

Wow! We need to pray for this men...all 3 of the them, the priest, and both men in the "marriage".

Anonymous 9:14, No I'm not joking, for once he's right. So is Anna Quindlin. There is a fine line between righteous and self righteous. The moment you proclaim yourself right and marginalize others is the same moment you cease to be righteous.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous 4:47, No, he's wrong, and you're foolish.

It's not about caring. It's about what marriage is. Just because homosexuals want to set up housekeeping and form a permanent relationship, it doesn't make it marriage.
Marriage is between a man and a woman. To redefine it is to change its character.

"There is a fine line between righteous and self righteous. The moment you proclaim yourself right and marginalize others is the same moment you cease to be righteous."

We can no doubt agree that being self-righteous is not good. That is precisely why we must not substitute private judgement on moral matters for that of the magisterium (the teaching authority of the Church). If one follows the magisterium one is by definition not self-righteous.

And the magisterium has been constant on this point throughout the centuries. Those who substitute their own moral judgement are the ones who are focused on self. We must die to ourselves to live in Christ. Not my teaching - it's biblical.

Hmmmm John the Mad. Are you married? The magisterium "board of the Vatican" does make mistakes, so do cardinals, bishops and priests. I used to be mad to, but I quit letting religion get in the way of my faith. I'm a cradle Catholic, married, with 5 sons in Catholic schools and when the sexual abuse scandal hit I stepped back and took a good look at my religion. And I realized I wasn't Catholic because I agreed with the "magisterium", ( because until there are women on the board their decisions are incomplete). I'm Catholic because it is universal, that is what catholic means, all encompassing. Christ accepts me as I am, you as you are, Frank as he is and gays as they are. His forgiveness is beyond my comprehension. Jesus himself said above all other commandments he asked us to love one another as he loved us. Jesus didn't come down and hang out with just Jews, no he worked the fringes he embraced the "marginalized." He knocked people off their pedestals, people who beat their own chests only leave bruises.

To those who have commented negative about the Church and priests, specially the last anonymous who blindly BELIEVES is a Catholic, but he is NOT and that is the mistake of so many calling themselves Catholics. In God's book they are cafeteria Catholics but they can NEVER or SHOULD NEVER call themselves Catholics because Catholicism was founded by Jesus Christ’s truth and the magisterium obeys Jesus laws. The problem here, and not many seem to look at this truth, is that the church was, is and always will be SACRED, but those who enter and BRAKE themselves in sins, including priest, are the ones who are with the sin and have to give account to God, but let's NOT blame other HOLY priest for those who, when entered to the house of God have sinned. Yes, God forgives sin but ONLY, hear this well, ONLY when we REPENT of the SINS he told us are WRONG, other than that is there is no repentance and stop doing the sin, please don't call yourselves Catholics or Protestants following God because if you do not obey and respect the LAWS of God you should call yourselves Cafeteria believers or atheist. God wants it all and not half and half or self-chosen believes. Wake up America!!!

Hmmmm, yourself. I've been married 17 years and we have been blessed with two boys - both in Catholic schools.

While the word "catholic" does means "universal" it does not mean a Catholic should accept all views and actions as equally valid. That is stretching the concept of "taking the broad approach" beyond reason.

The Church discerns truth through the use of Revelation (scripture and Tradition) and (right) reason. Reason tells us that the first principle of philosophy is that something cannot both be and not be at the same time. Not a bad starting point in discernment.

You allude to the Church's sexual abuse scandal. We both are opposed to activities of priests who committed such acts, but your opposition appears to me to lack a certain moral coherence. On what grounds, by your own stated view, do you object to what happened? By your own lights are you not being judgmental, something you say we ought not to be.

Just because Christ loves us as we are, does not mean he accepts us as we are. He lived, suffered, died and rose again that we may be free from sin. He clearly did not approve of certain things, - and not just hypocrisy – though He seemed to loathe that.

It is true that Jesus didn't condemn the woman caught in adultery. He forgave her, saying to her, "Neither will I condemn thee. Go, and now sin no more." Now why did he add that last sentence?

Christ indeed embraces and loves the marginalized, but don't forget that He came, "that all might be saved" - rich and poor alike, though he said the rich would have a tough go of it – primarily, I expect, because their attachment to material goods makes it difficult for them to die to oneself and live in Christ. It is not that Christ loves the rich less, but that the rich find it difficult to love Him more.

I like your line, "People who beat their own chests only leave bruises." That's precisely why we should struggle to discern the beat of the Sacred Heart when considering matters of morality.

Scripture says it was the owner of that most Sacred Heart who said, "Tu est Petrus." From that biblical reference flows the Church’s magisterial authority and power to teach the truth. Our catholicity springs from the fact that the Church is the Body of Christ, not from any liberal, non-judgmental, take on sexuality. Jesus said to Peter, the first Bishop of Rome, "Whatever you bind upon earth shall be bound also in heaven …." In my view, that’s hard to beat.

What do I care whether the dude reading at the podium is same-sex married? Does that change the reading? Okay, so maybe it gets proclaimed with a lisp, but the person doing the reading doesn't change what the Word is, and that's the important thing. A sinful priest still validly consecrates the host, so what do I care what he does outside of mass? Same for the reader or the other ministers or the servers. THe mass is the mass is the mass. I get the grace regardless of the vessel that transmits it.

Anonymous December 11:

That may be true, but it is a self-centered view--I don't mean that in a nasty way, but just as a description. We need to remember all those same-sex attracted Catholics who are struggling to live their lives in accordance with the church's teaching on homosexuality. What are they to think? Are they foolish to struggle? What is the real teaching? Is it what goes on at MHR or what the Magisterium says?

Below is a comment we received on the post "MHR and How it Got That Way" back in 2007. The third paragraph in particular addresses this issue:

"I was active in the gay community including co-habitating with "boyfriends" for almost a decade... The fatigue of watching friends die and one night stands, alcohol and recreational drugs... all the stereotypes - I did them.

One day I could not take it anymore and after hearing an MP3 of a sermon given by a pretty traditional priest, I found myself making a good confession for the first time in 8 or 9 years.

What frustrates me to no end is that in catering and cajoling these folks this opportunity this call to conversion may never come. It is also rather a slap in the face to those of us who seek to grow in chastity and holiness and have turned from this.

Why doesn't the ArchD of San Francisco support US? Where is their Courage apostolates?"

Fr. Malloy, Fr. Malloy, Fr. Malloy - - How dare you cast the first or any other stone? Is there anything at Most Holy Redeemer that compares with the cover up of sex crimes by the Salesians? I’m told that the Salesians have more predators than any other order and that you Dear Father were up to your neck in trying to cover up for Fr. Steve Whelan. The community at Most Holy Redeemer simply comes together to listen to God’s word, share the life sustaining meal His Son gave to all of us and try to love our neighbor as ourselves. And we do it with our zippers up! May God forgive you for bearing such false witness.
