Archbishop Niederauer Video on Marriage!
Our California Catholic Bishops are seizing the teaching moment and speaking out on marriage! Here's His Excellency George Niederauer of San Francisco. It's over at Marriage Matters to Kids.org.
Follow the link to the page, the video will start automatically.
In this video the Archbishop voices the Church's justification for supporting Proposition 8. The proposition passed by a narrow majority stripping gay and lesbian people of the right to marry. Rather than regarding gay and lesbian families as having the right to be legally recognized as the California Supreme Court had ruled, the Church saw fit to support the overturning of that ruling, forcing Californians who are not Catholic or even Christian to abide by their religious doctrine. The suffering of gay and lesbian people and the threat to our families is the consequence.
Fr. Malloy served as a Salesian of Don Bosco. He was the Provincial of the Western and then Eastern Province of the Salesians.
He was president of Don Bosco Technical Institute in San Gabriel, CA. Former pastor of Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish in Surrey, B.C. and then Saints Peter and Paul Church in San Francisco. From its inception until his death he served as the Chaplain of the Walk for Life West Coast. His final earthly posting was at Salesian High School in Richmond, CA, just a stone's throw from where he was born and raised. At age 91, Fr. John died on Wednesday of Holy Week in the Year of our Lord 2013.
Gibbons J. Cooney served as Fr. Malloy's secretary from 2001-2007 at Saints Peter and Paul, San Francisco, and as Father's assistant blogger.
