light and Light

Two stabbings occured in Washington Square Park, across the street from Saints Peter and Paul Church on New Year's Eve. This is just weeks after lots of expensive new lighting was installed in the park to make it "safer."

It's an interesting comment on our society's propensity to seek technological fixes for moral problems: To prevent shootings: gun control. To prevent conception, birth control.

Whatever happened to self-control? But that of course is anathema in San Francisco, since self-control implies a norm, a kind of life we should be leading, which in turn means one thing is better than another, and who knows where that kind of thinking may lead....

As Father Armand Oliveri commented, all the light in the world won't do any good without that other Light...
