That's right, YOUR tax dollars at work.
When they're not taking your kids to a lesbian wedding...
The Sacramento Bee reports: On Tuesday, the California Teachers Association gave $1 MILLION dollars to the "No on Proposition 8" Campaign.
From the article's "Comments" section:
"I will now oppose any CTA Teacher cause or event, including increased teacher salaries."
"$1 million would buy a lot of school books, a lot of computers, revitalize undershelved libraries, tudor many struggling children, or, or, or . . . . What a waste! Any teacher who is a member of CTA needs to take a long look before giving one more penny in dues -- no matter what his or her own lifestyle or political agenda."
"I'm supposed to take more money from my family to pay more taxes so we can pay the poor underpaid teachers more so the CTA can take more money from THEIR families for more dues to spend on political causes that many of the teachers don't agree with in the first place."
"The teachers unions are the most corrupting social influence in America today."
And here's the email that went out to CTA members:
"Dear Staff:
I wanted to let you know that CTA made an additional donation of $1 million to the NO on Prop 8 campaign, as well as $600,000 to the NO on Prop 6 and No on Prop 9 campaigns.
As these donations get reported in the news media, some of our members (and many non-members) may call or e-mail to express concern over CTA's position on Prop. 8. Please be polite and ask the caller if he or she is a CTA member - remember we are here to provide service to our members.
I'm attaching some talking points to help you with any calls you may receive. Should the caller become abusive or use inappropriate language, let the caller know that you are going to hang up and then please do so.
Thank you for the work you do on behalf of our members.
Carolyn Doggett
CTA Executive Director"

I am a public school teacher and I am embarrassed to say I am a member of the CTA. I happen to be a supporter of Prop. 8, but regardless of my position, I am at a loss to see the benefit of throwing away $1 million dollars this close to the election. Isn't there anything more important for the CTA to spend its (my) money on? Nobody asked for my opinion. I could give a list as long as my arm of things that would be more beneficial to students.
Unbelievable! I will be withdrawing my membership in the CTA.
Dear Ms. Evelyn Larrubia,
I had seen your article's in the LA Times Oct 17th in regards to the "Teachers Union donating $1,250,000 to oppose Prop. 8" These so called union leaders such as their association's President David Sanchez and his statment "Supporters of the proposition said the teachers union "did not speak for all of its members on the issue of gay marriage".
The true question should be asked is: Who's money is it? and "Who are the ones making these decisions to oppose Prop 8 without the full consent of its union members? One Million Dollars + contributing $250,000 earlier in the year to fight the passing of Proposition 8. I'm confident there are 100,0000"s more like me who are in the dark about this and would be outraged if they knew that these Union leaders were doing!
Sanchez said the donations were "a pittance" compared with what religious groups have donated to proponents of the initiative. Again who are these people making these decisions without the the full consent of its union members?
These Union leaders at the top have now tainted all of those good hard working teachers who oppose these decisions made by there union leaders but have no say or control in the matter, instead they are lead like sheep to the slaughter house in the dark and now have been labeled without there consent!
I do not believe I am alone is these questions and would like to see how many Teachers Union Members agree with this poll. You may be very surprised to find that they "The Teachers Union Elite that gave this $1,250,000 to oppose Prop. 8 have now awoke a Sleeping Giant of Angry Teachers" and will soon arise to overcome these "Self appointed elite class of union members who spend the teachers hard earned dollars without there approval.
And this editorial I read that said it best by: Ms Sylvia Cochran, published Oct 18, 2008 "That $1,250,000 would have repaired an awful lot of termite damage, doors, and aging school buildings. If nothing else, it might at least have paid for the inspection and repair of gas pipes, for which apparently there is no money in the budget either; thus the appeal of Measure K....
If I was a part of the Teachers Union I'd demand that they also now give 1Ml 250K in support of Prop 8 to counter balance this over site then FIRE its Union Leaders for misrepresentation and take steps to prevent any future fiduciary irresponsible to its members.

Hello! Just a blog lurker here. I'm upset about the CTA donating all that money but there is something we can do about it! Get every teacher you know who is for prop 8 to get a refund of their portion of the dues. If 3,333 teachers do this then the donation is null and void. Here is the link that explains how to get the refund:
http://www.nrtw.org/special-legal-notice-california-teachers-how-get-least-300-refund-cta-nonbargaining-expenses
Get the word out soon to send CTA a clear strong message that not all teachers agree with their ideas!!!
I just tried to post a comment and I don't think it worked, so forgive me if this is on there twice. If we get 3,333 teachers to go after a refund for their portion of the dues spent on prop 8, then the donation will be null and void! Get the word out to teachers who are in favor of protecting the family to go to the following link for their refund! http://www.nrtw.org/special-legal-notice-california-teachers-how-get-least-300-refund-cta-nonbargaining-expenses
And while you are at it, I think you should tell all the church members that are against discrimination and are voting NO on 8, to ask for their tithes and offerings back from their various places of worship. Because the Catholic Church, the LDS Church, many fundamental Christian Churches have used the church members tithes and offerings to purchase air time, literature and and promotional items for Yes on 8.
Those church memebers weren't asked if they wanted their money used in that way, it just was.
To elphabecca who said that the Teacher's Union donation is the same as churches donating to a "Yes on 8" misses the point. The general public does not pay taxes that pay for clergy, church buildings etc. The church is not a public institution, it is private.
Even teachers who support
"No on 8" see the problem with this donation. Linda Rich
Tell Teachers to Opt out of Voluntarily Donations to CTA political monitary support of Political Issues. They must opt out before Nov 1, 2008.
CTA is voluntarily collecting a $20 donation from CTA members that don't opt out of the contribution by a paper form that your union should have or by going to the CTA web site. Be warned, you need to sign up for the CTA site with your CTA card number and go through a variety of confirmation process before you click Refund under the voluntary donation link on the web site.
Go sign in to the CTA and get your money back.
1. Go to: http://www.cta.org/home.aspx
2. If you have not created a MyCTA account go to the following link and create one:
(you will need your CTA card number)

3. Go to the voluntary donation link
4. Select your choice
5. Review your choice
"The church is not a public institution, it is private."
Private institutions do not qualify for universal tax exemption and furthermore do not spread lies and fearmonger that the passing of specific propositions will revoke that status.
However, if you insist on being a private organization, then you contributions count for little more than corporate bribery and should be treated as such.
Have you heard about the Camilla Letter from the girl in Folsom?
California Teacher’s Association Responds to “Camilla Letter”
Board Member Jim Rogers responds directly to student letter with abrupt condescension, sparking local outrage
In a letter questioning CTA choices in this matter, Folsom High School student Camilla X, wrote to CTA officials protesting their use of teacher funds and received this shockingly worded reply from CTA/NEA coordinator, Jim Rogers….and this is a direct quote:
“Thanks, Sweetie, but it’s over for now. And it’s really none of your business.”

Regarding: From the article's "Comments" section:
"I will now oppose any CTA Teacher cause or event, including increased teacher salaries."
Unfortunately this is all to true in the event of "quick to judge, my wife is Catholic and a teacher and voted in favor of supporting YES on 8, but as Fr had stated teachers, all teachers are guilty and were judged by this evil union without their full consent of the 340,000 member base and voted on by 800
Union doesn't speak for all state's teachers

Please read my story at www.hope7.highpowersites.com of what happened to me in Northern California after writing letters to my legislators regarding a bill the teachers union supported to offer more protections to homosexual teachers and what they did to me when I metntioned the murder I witnessed of a 17 yo boy at the hands of a practicing homosexual. Here is my touche moment, my star fish moment.
A poem titled, TEACHERS UNION GO AWAY, STOP THAT TRAIN TODAY TODAY" By GL
Teachers Union go away
Our kids deserve to have their say
Teaches Union go away
Tolerance is not for just the gay
Teachers Union go away
Your philosophies lead children astray
Teachers Union go away
Gods precepts you dont outweigh
Teachers Union go away
And from that place please do stay
Teachers Union go away
We will get rid of you someway
Teachers Union go away
UNTIL WE ALL SHOUT, " TOUCHE TOUCHE!"
This may not be a great poem, OK OK
But it states a fact that is straighway
We dont want the teachers union railway
Teachers Union go away
Stop that train TODAY TODAY.
