Obama Votive Candles and Wolves in Sheep's Clothing

The Barack Obama "votive" candles being sold at a shop in San Francisco have been getting a lot of attention in the Catholic blogosphere. We did not comment, because San Francisco is so corrupt that they seemed relatively harmless. Or maybe living here for 51 years has corrupted us as well. Anyway, this latest news does deserve comment. The following is from today's Matier & Ross column in the San Francisco Chronicle (the item is towards the bottom of the column, but the entire column is instructive for those outside of San Francisco):

"Light a fire: A local Catholic priest's call for a boycott of that Noe Valley store carrying President Obama prayer candles appears to be having the opposite effect.

'Thanks to Father Tony La Torre, we had four priests in today buying the candle,' said David Eiland, co-owner of the Just for Fun novelty shop. 'One was visiting from Rome and bought a candle for his best friend who is the head of the Franciscans.'"

I wonder which other three priests purchased this "campy" item?

I pray that they bought the candles to use as they pray to intercede for the conversion of Barach Obama. I know that if I were to purchase such a candle, that would be my intent!
